Your Boston Celtics suffered yet another disappointing loss in the middle of December. To put it mildly, Wednesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers was unusual.

The midweek game featured two distinct Celtics teams, according to spectators. They started with the team they had been watching for the previous week and a half before moving on to the first team of the season.

Consider the opposite of what you just read about. The second half was made up of that. As they clawed their way back into the fray, the Boston Celtics appeared to have fully recovered. They were only able to close the gap by five points, but they ultimately failed to advance past that. The Cs were everywhere, making turnovers, hustling on the offensive glass, and even taking down a few 3-pointers for the first time in what seemed like an eternity.

Teams typically do not come back and win when they lose by 30 points for a reason, which is unfortunate. Everything had to go perfectly, but that did not happen. The Celtics’ momentum was stopped by the Pacers’ big-time shots, which was just enough to keep them in contention for the victory.

One of Jayson Tatum’s best performances against Indiana came from this match. On an effective 10/ 15 from the field, he scored 28 second half points. Not to mention that the 24-year-old enforced his will and maintained a clean appearance throughout. All seven of Tatum’s second half attempts— including a thunderous dunk over former teammate Aaron Nesmith— were unsuccessful because he shot 100% in the paint.

Boston was not revived by Tatum’s monster half, but he undoubtedly gave the team enough energy to make the game. Players other than Tatum did not really contribute enough to the Cs’ massive comeback.

Robert Williams III was the lone exception in this situation. With 12 total rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end, the Timelord “made his presence known,” giving Boston more possessions as they reentered the game.
